Dear Tech Workshop Editors, The technology workshop is about 10 days away. Most white papers have been uploaded to the workshop web site. If you have not already done so, I urge you to communicate with the authors of white papers in your technology area and coordinate with them the presentations and panel discussion during the workshop. Almost all technology topics receive 90 minutes which should be split between presentations and panel discussions. There is no binding format. Outlined here are two possibilities. (1) A 40 minute review by the editor and 50 minutes of panel discussion. The panel consists of the editor and authors of white papers. (2) A set of presentations by authors of white papers and then panel discussion mediated by the editor. (For example, the 'polarization modulators' part will use format #2). During planning please bear in mind these overall considerations. (1) The report that will come out should convince a decadal panel that our community has a reasonable plan for technology development over the next few years. One of the possible outcomes of this plan is a TRL suitable for designing a satellite. (2) Presentations and discussions should provide a balance sheet of advantages and disadvantages for various experimental configurations. (3) Presentations and discussions should give balanced assessments of current TRL and the steps necessary to increase it. As an example, attached below is a suggestion for a ~12 minute presentation that was distributed to authors of the polarization modulators white papers. I look forward to seeing all of you at the workshop.
