From Shaul Hanany, June 16, 2008 Here is the e-mail from the person at IOP about the cost of softbacks. See the following links for an examples of digital proceedings http://www.iop.org/EJ/toc/1742-6596/114/1 http://www.iop.org/EJ/volume/1742-6596/112 Feel free to distribute among our telecon colleagues. Shaul -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Re: publish proceedings with IOP Date: Thu, 12 Jun 2008 16:48:59 +0100 From: Graham Douglas To: Shaul Hanany Dear Shaul Many thanks for your e-mail. I'll take this opportunity to include costs for printed copies in addition to answering the question about presentations. Based on the following: (a) the number of pages in the printed proceedings: 200 - 250 (b) the number of printed copies you need: 60 (c) binding: SOFTBACK (includes full colour image on cover at no extra cost) (d) colour printing YES, ABOUT 25% OF TOTAL NUMBER OF PAGES (e) shipping to participants (assume most/majority in the US/Europe) Our prices are (i) 200 pages: $28 per copy (ii) 250 pages: $32 per copy The cost of colour printing is $0.5 per page per copy, ie $30 per each page printed in colour (based on 60 copies). The cost of printed colour (per page per copy) varies only with the number of copies. Our main requirement is that we do not publish proceedings that consist of (mainly) 1 or 2-page abstracts, we prefer to have fuller conference papers of ~4 pages, or more --- although, of course, a small number of abstracts (say, few percent) is of course no problem. To answer the requirement for manuscript preparation, there are full guidelines and templates on the JPCS web site. We require *only* a PDF, prepared as described in our author guidelines. The specific pages of interest are: http://www.iop.org/EJ/journal/-page=extra.3/1742-6596 Also of interest: Article checklists http://www.iop.org/EJ/journal/-page=extra.5/1742-6596#ESSENTIAL PDF Guidelines http://www.iop.org/ej/journal/-page=extra.4/1742-6596 I hope that our costs are acceptable and that we may have the opportunity to work with you. Should you wish to publish with us the next step is to prepare a publishing agreement --- just 2 pages long --- which summarises our arrangements. I can also provide some standard HTML text for your website, containing a summary of what your authors need to do, plus links to the guidelines etc --- to help save time making the proceedings announcement. Look forward to hearing from you All the best Graham =======
